Turkey, on the Anatolian Peninsula between the Mediterranean and Black seas, grows more grapes than almost any country on earth. Only a very small proportion of these grapes are made into wine.

Turkey's viticulture history is one of the most ancient in the world, the modern Turkish wine industry is very young. Turkey only resumed producing wine in 1925, as a symbol of the nation's modernization and Westernization.

2012 promises to be an exciting year for Wines of Turkey. In 2012 Turkish wines are listed by M&S, Laithwaites, The Wine Society, Berkmann, Thierry's.

Tekirdag and its vicinity, have been among the leading viniculture regions of Turkey since ages. The suitability of the region for vine growing was confirmed by the French experts during the first years of Turkish Republic and therefore the wine industry was mainly focused in the region. Sarkoy, is the production center of noble grapes, white wines and special wines for Kayra.

On Bozcaada, vinery and wine-making is a 3000-year tradition. The island's traditional grapes are white Vasilaki and Cavus, black Kuntra and Karalahana. In recent years, the choice of grape has widened to include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. The traditional system of cultivation allows for more than 600 plants every 1000 square metres. The harvest begins with the white grapes on the 15th of August, and continues until mid-October.

Kocabag Cappadocian Wines is a family owned wine producer and viticulture company located in Uchisar district, with an annual capacity of 300 thousands of liters... Of all the grapes, Kalecikkarasi, Okuzgozu, Bogazkere, Narince, Emir are the most common grape varieties from this region. Kocabag has been awarded with 6 gold and 17 silver medals in International wine contests.

Clone selection of Bornova Misket is carried out in the vineyards for the first time in Turkey.
